What will 2022 bring for Cloud Hosting?

Over the last two years, the popularity of cloud computing has exploded. The Covid-19 pandemic has most certainly encouraged businesses to diversify and adapt, and ultimately accelerate their digital transformation plans by months, or even years.

And in 2022 we will undoubtedly see a continuation of this rapid growth and adoption, as businesses continue to see the benefits cloud solutions can bring.

Remote working is one of the most notable outcomes of the pandemic, and a strategy many businesses will continue to employ, not only because they can see the benefits it provides to their staff, but also the cost saving advantages.

However, as more people work from home and businesses downsize and move away from office buildings, where they host their I.T. infrastructure will be a decision they have to make. This is where cloud hosting can provide the most benefit and security for a business.

Here’s an overview of what we think the key trends in cloud hosting will be over the next year.

Ongoing innovation in cloud services

According to predictions from Gartner, global spending on cloud services is expected to reach over $482 billion in 2022, up from $313 billion in 2020. And with remote working here to stay, we’re not surprised.

Over the next year, we can expect to see an increase in cloud and data centre infrastructure as more business opt to migrate. What businesses are now starting to realise, especially those that no longer have a premises to host their I.T. infrastructure, is that hosting can provide an “as is” delivery of their current I.T. servers, making it simpler and easier to manage.

The process of moving I.T. to a hosted environment is now a much quicker and simplified option when comparing it to the move to public cloud platforms.

Public vs Private Cloud

The first port of call for many businesses who are looking to migrate to the cloud is to move their data to the public cloud, however, doing so can prove expensive in the long run if a lift and shift migration of their estate is adopted. Many businesses are starting to recognise this, and are therefore moving away from the public cloud to a hosted private environment for their I.T.

When moving to a hosted infrastructure, there are no major upgrade or migration costs. Yes, there are costs in moving to a datacentre, but these are significantly less than having to make your data, applications and staff cloud native.

A shortage of I.T talent will create a greater push to cloud

Following the pandemic, we’ve entered a time of “The Great Resignation” as employees in all roles and across all sectors are leaving their jobs. For I.T. this means that talent is at an all-time low and turning to automated solutions and cloud platforms can help make up for the loss of manpower. We don’t expect this trend to change over the next year, if anything, more businesses will turn to such solutions as a way of saving on staffing costs.

Increase in off-prem Private Cloud

Businesses looking at moving to a hosted solution will also have the option to explore an off-prem private cloud for their virtual I.T. estates. And as many businesses go virtual, this is an option that will become even more popular, particularly for those who have limited I.T. staff onsite. It provides significant advantages over just hosting or moving to the public cloud…
